April 8th, 2008, this is the first time ever the Guinness World Records (GWR) Adjudicator comes to Vietnam for awarding the Guinness’ Certificate of The World’s Largest Cup of Coffee to Vinacafé Bien Hoa. This event is held at Daewoo Hotel, Ha Noi with the presence of more than 70 international and local journalists.

Beforehand, in the impressively magnificent event at Tao Dan Cultural Park on 15/12/2007, the giant Cup of Coffee-which was executed by more than 100 people- was claimed as the National Record of Largest Cup of Coffee by the Vietnam Records Book (Vietkings). However, as the purpose at the very beginning is to promote the Vietnam coffee to worldwide, Vinacafe’ Bien Hoa’s goal is the World Record. Hence, before, during and after the execution, they strictly followed the Guinness’ Guildines, the procedures with the international standards. Before the execution, reference to the news from the local and international newspapers, Duran Café’ of Panama (South America) had broken the World’s record of America (2,500 liters) by making a 2,840 liters cup of roasted-ground coffee. That record of Panama had been maintaining even when an Australian coffee company tried to break but they failed with their 2,200 liters cup of coffee.


Mr. Phạm Quang Vũ – Vice General Director of Vinacafé Bien Hoa said: GWR has representative offices in many areas which can guideline you about setting or breaking a record, but the record must be adjudicated and claimed by head office in United Kingdom. Even the working schedule of The Adjudicator of GWR in Vietnam is very tight, but after awarding the certificate to Vinacafé Bien Hoa, the GWR Adjudicator will spend 30 minutes to answer the questions related to Guinness World Records from the journalists.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung – Marketing Director of Vinacafé Bien Hoa, Guinness is so well known in Vietnam that when you mention Guinness it means the records. In the purpose of breaking the current World record, Vinacafe’s Bien Hoa applied for the Fast Track service to get the guidelines from the GWR and strictly followed the international standards in all the procedures. In order to be acknowledged by GWR- a trusty and prestigious organization all over the world- as a new record holder- Vinacafe’ Bien Hoa determined to do it with all the awareness of the upcoming difficulties and obstacles to overcome. By that, Vinacafe’ Bien Hoa could make giant and effective step to introduce not only Vietnam coffee but also our country to the whole world.

On 30/03/2008, Vinacafé Bien Hoa organized the Departing Ceremony from the Itinerary of the World’s Largest Cup of Coffee to the Ancestral Land of Kings Hung. On 08/04/2008, after going across the country in 10 days, the World’s Largest Cup of Coffee has arrived Hanoi. Then, they will have a parade around the Hoan Kiem Lake and some main streets in Hanoi. After that, they are heading to Kings Hung Temple- Phu Tho province in order to make it right on the morning of the Opening Day of Kings Hung Temple Festival on 9th April.

Differing from all other records, the Vinacafe’ Bien Hoa’s record is marked with national and cultural traditions: worshipping and highly respecting the ancestors. Right after finished making the giant cup of coffee successful, Vinacafé Bien Hoa had an offering ceremony first cup of coffee to the ancestors at Kings Hung Temple in Tao Dan Cultural Park, Ho Chi Minh City. In order to remark the difference, Vinacafé Bien Hoa has been waiting to the right time at Kings Hung’s anniversary to announce this important information though Vinacafé Bien Hoa had got the Certificate from GWR in the mid of January, 2008. This time to Vietnam, The Adjudicator of GWR is invited to join the offering rite of Vinacafe’ Bien Hoa at Kings Hung Temple, Phu Tho province on 9/04/2008 (The Opening day of Kings Hung Temple festival this year). A traditional Vietnam with the good customs and proud old age history will be introduced to the world through this new record of Guinness World Records. This is the way that Kings



Hung’s descendants have made The World show their respects to the nation’s hallowed heroes. Right after the ceremony at Kings Hung Temple, Phu Tho province, the GWR Indicator will head to Noi Bai International Airport to back to the U.K.

Besides the Itinerary of the Largest Cup of Coffee to the Ancestral Land of Kings Hung in order to show the people the new world’s record, Vinacafe’s Bien Hoa has some other social activities such as: granting the funds for Poor at where the Cup’s carriage halts. At the Kings Hung Festival, it is estimated that 300,000 cups of naturally delicious coffee to be served. Vinacafe’ Bien Hoa also sponsor for the competition of making the traditional square glutinous rice cake within the Kings Hung Festival 2008.

The whole journey of the World’s Largest of Coffee event, from the initial idea to the Itinerary to the Ancestral Land of Kings Hung will be reviewed at 20:00 on VTC1 on 15/04/08 and re-air on Sunday morning of 20/04/08.

1. The Record Cup was designed and scale up from the actually Vinacafe’s cup made of stainless steel which is used for food. Attaching with is the ladder for mixing, the 6 tons resistant-platform on the floor of Tao Dan Culture Park, HCMC.

2. 818 kg of instant mix coffee 3 in 1 was used to make the Cup of coffee.

3. The special high tech are used and the need of the tight coordination of more than 100 people at time. All of the staffs who mixed the giant cup of coffee must be in good health, which were examined with the same standards of the 5-star chefs.

4. The mixing tools must be hygienic and for food safety.

5. It needs to boil 4,000 liters of mineral water continuously in 6 hours at place without using the industrial specialized tools but with 12 14- kg gas tanks.

6. The finished coffee was taken out by the siphon effect in order to ensure the hygiene and to remain the taste of the coffee. The Public Health authorization took the samples of the finished coffee for testing.

7. Vinacafe’ Bien Hoa had 30,000 cups of coffee served within the Tao Dan Cultural Park and other 10 sites in HCMC.

8. The volume of the coffee was verified by the QUATEST 3 by the international standardized measuring devices.
