Vietnam held Festival to promote coffee consumption



 Dak Lak province, Vietnam's largest coffee-growing area, recently launched a festival to promote the consumption of coffee products in the domestic market. The four-day event, which attracted many domestic and international coffee firms, presented various activities, from dances by ethnic minority groups who grow coffee to concerts sponsored by coffee companies. Domestic consumption has significantly increased in recent years, reaching about 60,000 tonnes in 2005 compared with less than 40,000 tonnes three years ago, official sources said. That rate of growth is expected to continue in coming years.
 
According to figures provided by the Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa) the country has three factories producing instant coffee products. State-owned Vinacafe and Switzerland's Nestle S.A. each own factories with an annual output of 1,000 tonnes of instant coffee per year, while privately owned Trung Nguyen Co. owns a plant that annually produces 200 tonnes of instant coffee.
